CLINICAL PILATES

Due to the current restrictions, there aren't any face to face classes. I offer online Pilates classes via Zoom on Fridays at 10am.

Pilates in Tavira, Algarve
Pilates is a movement system developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates. It aims to strengthen the whole body, with particular emphasis on core strength. It benefits people of all ages and levels of ability and fitness, from beginners to elite athletes. 

Clinical Pilates
Clinical Pilates uses modified exercises to build up strength and improve mobility in a safe environment. It is aimed at people recovering from wide range of conditions including back/neck pain, hip and knee pain and many more. After you become efficient at simple exercises, you will progress to harder and more complex variations to systematically increase strength and mobility.

I use pilates to aid recovery from any problem you might have. Initially it will be part of your rehab program. Then, you can continue 1 to 1 or in a small class. I keep the clinical Pilates class small (max 10 people) to ensure exercises are performed correctly and effectively. 

Benefits
Pilates focuses on improving core strength and muscular imbalances, which in turn has a positive impact on our overall health and wellbeing. Other benefits include improved posture, balance, flexibility, joint mobility and general fitness.

Mat Pilates Classes
The classes are aimed at patients treated previously to help with their recovery. If I haven't seen you for a treatment before, please book the osteopathic assessment for Pilates class as you cannot attend my classes without completing it. We will talk about your past medical history and previous or current injuries to avoid aggravating your symptoms in the class. It takes about 45 minutes and there is no charge. Based on the assessment, I will recommend which class to join. 

Pilates vs Yoga
While the methods are different, pilates and yoga both develop strength, balance, flexibility and posture. Yoga places more emphasis on relaxation, flexibility and uses meditation whereas the primary aim of Pilates is to improve strength. Pilates exercises are performed in a flow of movement without the static poses associated with Yoga.

Clothing
I recommend you wear comfortable clothes that are form fitting but not restrictive.
